How Much Does an MVHR System Cost?

The MVHR Unit

An MVHR unit is the ‘Heart’ of the system moving air through the home.

The cost of installing one varies depending on several factors such as

  • the size of your property
  • the complexity of the project
  • the type of ducts used
  • the quality/brand of components

Generally, most residential MVHR units are designed for property sizes of between 100m² - 350m² .

The size of a property is calculated from the Gross Internal Area (GIA) for each floor – this figure is then used to assess the whole house ventilation flow rate and from that, select a corresponding size unit.

As a rough rule of thumb, and for a good brand, expect to pay between £1,000 - £3500 incl VAT for an MVHR unit.

Ducting

Ducting is the ‘veins and arteries’ of the system. Using good quality, well installed ducting will ensure the unit performs as it is designed to.

We recommend and use radial ducting as it is the most robust construction, able to withstand the rigours of a new build site. For this system type, it is reasonable to expect the ducting to be a similar cost as the unit.

Given the above a rough guide for a good quality MVHR system relative to house size, would be as follows:

Description

 Approx Cost

Size of Property/Unit

100m² 150m²

150 --> to 200m²
200 m²  to 250m²

250 m²  to 350m²

£2000 - £2500

£2500 - £3500

£3500 - £4500

£4500 - £6000

This is a brief guide to give an indication of likely costs although as each build is individual, costs will vary. If you would like more information regarding MVHR, budgeting costs or technical information, please get in touch and we can discuss it with you and answer any questions you may have.
